Features / Base

Turn conversations into data you can use.

Base is a local data space for you and your Agent. Organize and update records through Chat, then explore the same data in six views.

Start with what you want to track

Track expenses, organize an inventory, or build a task list. Tell your Agent what you need, and it can create the fields and records in Base, then add or update entries when you ask.

Follow up with questions like “Which tasks are still open?” or “How much did I spend this month?” Your Agent can query and summarize the records directly, with the data right beside your conversation.

Base is the Chat's third column, not a window of its own. The tool names are the product's own: base_describe reads the columns and the current revision, base_insert_rows writes the row under a caller-supplied id. This ledger uses four of the ten column types below.

Six views. One set of records.

Use a table or list for details, a Kanban board for progress, a chart for trends, a gallery for media, or a map for locations. Every view stays connected to the same records.

  • Filter, sort, and group records to focus on what matters.
  • Calculate values with formulas and connect records with relations.
  • Add media attachments and review the history of each record.
  • Import and export CSV, JSON, and XLSX files.

Six view types, and only six: table, list, kanban, map, chart, gallery. Nothing under the tab bar is a copy — every view reads the same eighteen rows plus a filter, a sort, and a little configuration. Kanban groups by the select column, Map binds the location column, Gallery binds the attachment column.

Keep using the data you build

Keep a Base for one Chat, or work from a shared Project Base across its Chats. You can return to the same records as the work continues.

Apps can build a custom interface around a Base. Use the App for the task at hand, then open its Data tab to inspect and work with the records behind it.

Base stores your records locally. Apps receive separate permissions to read, add, change, or delete records and work with attachments. Checks on each update help protect newer changes from being overwritten by an outdated edit.

Three frames of the same workspace, top to bottom. Everything outside the handwriting is the product's own: the row named in the first reply is the first row of the Base below it, and the total in the last reply is that Base's own summary — the second Chat is not told the answer, it reads it.

Back up your saved local content

In releases with folder format v1, quit Bottega completely before copying the entire folder chosen during setup. Opening that copy after reinstalling restores saved local content; a copy made while the app is running is best effort and may have missing content.

The folder location is fixed after setup. To move it, quit, copy the whole folder, then choose the copy after reinstalling. iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and other file-sync directories are unsupported; use Bottega Cloud Sync for multiple devices.
